Leaving Santorini for more unknown islands is a good decision in the midst of high season. I like Santorini but I prefer it in the calmer months like May, June and September. Trust me, it is more pleasant off-season.

This time we are hopping on the Agios Giorgios to Ios, a 1,5 hour ferry ride away.
Of course it is more glam to island hop in the med with your own yacht or small sailing boat.
The new Mediterraneo gazette from Monocle even dedicated one column completely to the rules how to disembark from a yacht to a Mediterranean shore in style.

But here on these big ferries you can people watch, sit in the sun, have a Mythos,…. and this for 10 euro a ride. Choosing the “public” transport isn’t all that bad in Greece. Just make sure you have time and if you have to wait for a boat (or a delay) look for a taverna, order a cold drink and do not stress.
