Do you feel like a real (kind of wrong) tourist, if you visit the famous highlights of Iceland?
In winter, no, not really.
We went to see the world renowned Strokkur at Geysir, and we were practically alone. No buses, no screaming tourists, no cameras with flashes… The time was around sunset, when the temperature drops and the ice around the geyser cracks and makes noises. At a certain point we were standing there alone, with the only sound of the geyser bubbling and boiling until now and then it exploded in full force. During winter months, it’s really you versus nature in Iceland, even in Geysir.
