There is a big misconception about Iceland. People still think it’s very expensive and almost not affordable. This was true before 2007. Now it is cheaper than any other Scandinavian country (or even London or Paris for that matter) and if you play it a bit smart, you spend less than let’s say in Antwerp or Amsterdam.
A good example, I had the “catch of the day” fish at Sjavargrillid, a very good and cosy restaurant in the center of Reykjavik. I payed 2300 Kroner for this course, that is approximately 14 euro for a dish that I couldn’t finish because it was so huge.
Same with accommodation. On the picture you see the lounge and bar of KEX hostel in Reykjavik. You can sleep here in very affordable dormitories but also in very stylish double rooms with or without (bath)room and views over the bay and ocean. I loved this place!
Every bar in Reykjavik offers happy hours between 4 and mostly 7 pm. You pay half for drinks such as local beer, wine, cocktails or you get a second drink for free. 400 Kroner for a beer (2,3 euro for half a liter), 500 Kroner for a glass of wine (2,9 euro)…. We liked the happy hour and atmosphere at Kaldi Bar.
To completely convince you that Iceland is suitable for every budget, with Icelandair you can fly already as of 225 euro, tax in, from Europe to Iceland.
