People ask us sometimes for our favorite hotels. When you sleep in almost 100 different hotels a year, there is a wide variety to choose from. In our top-5 we have a new one. It’s called Haus Hirt, located in Bad Gastein in Austria. In true Austrian tradition, it’s family-owned with Evelyn Ikrath and husband Ike in charge. What makes the hotel so special is a mix of many things. It’s a quaint and unique building, located far enough from the busier town of Bad Gastein. The style inside is exclectic and colorfol, from old design furniture to a library with interesting art books. The rooms are simple but cosy and comfortable.
The crowd is a mix of 30-40-50 something, with or without kids (more during school holidays, so be warned). But the biggest reason why we vote Haus Hirt as one of the best hotels we ever stayed at, is Evelyn and here unstoppable urge to please her guests. She makes sure everybody feels at home, is comfortably installed in the plush sofas inside or loungers outside, she is a true lady of the haus (Hirt).
We like the breakfast, the complimentary light lunch buffet and (alcoholic) punch in the afternoon, the music in the evening in the very cosy bar (more about this later)… Actually, we just want to go back and relax for a week (or two) here. Wouldn’t that be nice!
