This is one of those small and simple trattorias that you sometimes find in Italy. Al Cappero is an agriturismo where Giusseppe and his family grow capers in the valley of Pollara in Salina. In the early morning in May and June they go out to pick 40 kilos of those small green delicacies while later on his wife and mother in law cook the most fantastic dishes with the capers.
On the terrace we enjoyed a typical Eolean salade with capers, boiled potatoes, tomato, onion, olives, oregano and basil while a home made dish with sweet and sour rabbit was equally tasty. The prices are low, Peppe doesn’t charge a coperto (cover charge) and for those wanting to roll directly into bed after dinner, there are a couple of appartments in Pollara that Peppe rents out for a fair price.
