For the moment, it’s probably the most hyped and trendy place in South-America. Meet Cartagena in Colombia. “The only risk is wanting to stay here” claims the tourism board sign. The old town within the city walls is now very safe, police people on every corner. New restaurants, bars and hotels are popping up everywhere. We had a peek in a new luxury boutique hotel opening up in July 2012. Martha, the manager was so kind to show us around. I took this picture from one of the terraces looking out over the old town and the new town in the distance. she invited us into her home, surprised us with an aperitif of aguardiente and local beer and showed us the Colombian hospitality. We are tempted to come back. With more time of course.
