Taking the slow train in Mongolia is a must-do. Don’t get me wrong, it is slow but it is charming and relaxing plus you avoid another very bumpy car ride hopping around the unpaved and potholed roads of Mongolia. We are taking the train from UB to Shevigobi, which means around seven hours of train. To travel more comfortably, we have booked a private coupe with two beds, a small table and a big window with views over the changing landscape. It’s not the Orient Express but it is comfortable and clean (except the toilets) and time flies. We would just recommend to pack a nice lunch and some drinks so you can enjoy the ride in style. Ours was courtesy of the Kempinski Khan Palace hotel, our favourite place to stay in UB. But more about this in a future post.
