We love compact airports. We like big, efficient and well-organized airports too but nothing beats a small and intimate international airport where you whizz through everything and the normal stress of flying is reduced to almost nothing. The layout and dĂ©cor of the Chinggis Khaan International Airport is simple: a couple of portraits of former rulers are saying bye bye. Next to the check-in is the security post and just after security is immigration and then the gate. The only gate, that is. We are talking of maximum 50 meters in total. Upstairs there are six souvenir shops. Cashmere, vodka and more cashmere. There is one bar, last Genghis Khan beer perhaps or a final round of milk tea? We will miss Mongolia, that’s a fact.
