The lake district in south-east Finland is famous for, well, the hundreds of lakes but also for some fine food. Around Mikkeli we visit some old mansions and farms, which have been assigned a second life as restaurant.
Tertin Kartano dates from the 16th century and while in the past some tough farmers lived here, it’s now, next to being still a functioning farm, a fine place to grab a delicious lunch buffet (see our photo) or buy some delicatessen made locally. From preserved, small fish to jellies with local beer.

The second stop we make is at Kenkavero an old farm transformed in work and handicraft shops and in a restaurant
