One of our favourite details in the Fogo Island Inn are the bronzed key fobs, made by the Dutch designer Chris Kabel who was inspired by the objects he found washed up on the many beaches of Fogo Island. During our stay, Chris is visiting and staying at the island for a second time, now doing some research about the old style of snow shoeing used on the islands. Chris studied at the famous Design Academy in Eindhoven and worked for famous brands like Droog Design in Amsterdam. His work can even be seen at the MoMA in New York.

I am sure Zita and the Fogo Island Inn were very happy with his concept of designing these beautiful bronze keys, giving small washed upon shore objects a second life. On the other hand, I am sure now and then a guest wants to take them back home because they are too cute. Maybe Chris has to come back to do longer walks along the shore line and design more keys.
