For most captains, entering the caldera of Santorini is one of the most beautiful things at sea. But we are unlucky and the wind is too strong so we have to anchor close to the volcano, protected from the wind and waves. The SeaDream II makes a day-long stop here in Santorini before heading to its final destination: Piraeus in Athens. We decided to end our voyage here so we can hop more easily to other Cycladic islands. With two other couples we met on board and get along very well, we head out to To Psaraki taverna in Vlychada, on the more quiet en unknown north side of Santorini. To Psaraki is an “Aegean Cuisine” member and serves fantastic, affordable and honest Greek food. We dig into numerous mezede from real tarama to the famous Santorini fava, sea urchin, heavenly grilled sardines,…The wine and tsipouro flow generously and the mood is good.

It’s a fantastic start of our Greece trip and a perfect moment to say bye bye to the friends and great people we met on SeaDream II. I am sure we will meet again!

Arriving in Santorini (and that's not our cruise ship)

In planning stages of visiting Rome, then heading south along the Amalfie Coast, onto Sicily to visit friends. Suggestions on off the beaten path points of interest along this route? My daughter and I are adventurous, are more in-tune with nature and people rather then shopping. Daughters first trip, my second. We love your pictures..bella!
