Follow the winding, dusty road which leads to Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse. We are not sleeping in a hay attic tonight but in an old homestead converted to comfortable, luxury hotel.
The farm is far away from the chic and busy Winelands around Cape Town. Guests come here to wind down, relax and do a 4×4 drive in the huge private reserve belonging to Mrs. Parker, the owner of Bartholomeus Klip.

The feeling is homey and the staff is gentle. In the evening a sun downer is taken on the back porch with the evening sounds of this little oasis made out of colossal oak trees and lush vegetation. If you had a long and tiring flight, this is the place to recover.

The cuisine is hearty and refined at the same time. No unnecessary tralalala but good home food which is dished up a little bit more fanciers than what would be served in a real farm kitchen. Actually, one evening I had by far the best duck ever. Slowly cooked, prepared with love, with a luscious texture and full of flavour. A bit like Bartholomeus Klip itself!
